Docente do ISCTE-IUL desde 1983 nas áreas da Sociologia do Trabalho e das Organizações e Relações de Emprego. Ao longo da carreira, tem também investigado e publicado nessas áreas, geralmente com um enfoque transversal sobre o sindicalismo. Organizou e ainda é Diretor do Mestrado em Ciências do Trabalho e Relações Laborais, onde leciona as UC relacionadas com Sindicalismo e Relações Industriais. Já desempenhou responsabilidades científicas institucionais e de gestão departamental.
