Our first push will be a government reform package. The plan has three components:

1) Voting Rights

Especially in light of the recent Republican voter fraud scandal in North Carolina, securing the integrity of our elections is essential. We will update and finally restore the protections of the Voting Rights Act, which the Supreme Court weakened in 2013. We will address the issues of partisan gerrymandering. And we will work to get more eligible Americans voting through automatic registry.

2) Ethics

By this point, we’re all sick and tired of the many scandals, failures, and abuses of power by Trump and officials within his Administration. The #metoo movement has also shed much-needed light on the prevalence and pervasive nature of sexual harassment in the workplace, including in Congress. We will change disclosure rules, so that candidates for president are required to disclose their tax returns. We will also ban the use of taxpayer dollars to settle sexual harassment cases for members of Congress.

3) Campaign Finance Reform

Ever since the Supreme Court handed down their decision in the Citizens United case, outside spending in our elections has been astronomical. When corporations can buy their allies seats in Congress, we get the system we have now — a government that works for the powerful, not the people. That has to change. We will require that certain outside groups to disclose their donors, so the American people know exactly who is trying to influence their votes. And we will do more to offset the influence of outside spending by instituting a system that offers federal matching funds for small-dollar campaign donations.

They want you to lose heart. Let’s remind them what we’re made of.

Approximately two years ago, millions of Americans gathered and rallied all across our country to send a message to the Republican-controlled government: Our First Stand to save our health care will hold you to account if you threaten our protections.

Republicans dismissed us. They repeatedly attacked young children with asthma. They threatened the health coverage of those living with cancer. And, by voting for the monstrosity of Trumpcare, they filled with anxiety and fear the lives of those who — because of the Affordable Care Act — no longer had to worry about whether their pre-existing conditions would be covered.

People took action, however. Powered by your courage, voice and grassroots mobilization, we took back the people’s House that passed the Affordable Care Act under my Speakership.

Our work is not yet done. Republicans are still plotting to destroy our health care. Last week, a judge ruled to dismantle our protections and obliterate the ACA. And we have to answer and fight back.

Democrats have a plan to tackle some of this nation’s biggest challenges in Day One of the new Congress. Here’s the breakdown:
