All — Did you see this tweet from Bernie Sanders just now?

But despite this massive opposition, Andrew Cuomo’s New York State Democratic Party is still planning to vote in favor of a ban on fusion voting tomorrow. And Cuomo is still refusing to rule out forcing his fusion ban through the legislature by adding it to the state budget before the April 1st deadline.
Cuomo’s fusion ban would be a direct attack on the Working Families Party and the entire progressive movement — all out of retribution for the gains we’ve made together over the past year, like defeating the IDC and passing progressive legislation that the IDC had bottled up for years.
It’s an attempt to prevent us from winning more victories like this in the future. That’s why it is so important we come together right now. And it’s why we are asking:

Team — We wanted to make sure you saw this email. Andrew Cuomo is trying to build support to ban fusion voting in New York, as retribution for the historic gains progressives and the Working Families Party have made over the past year.
PREVIOUS EMAIL:
Dear WFP supporter,
This coming Monday, Andrew Cuomo’s New York State Democratic Committee is planning to vote on a proposal to support a ban on fusion voting.1
Make no mistake: This is a direct attack by Andrew Cuomo on the Working Families Party, our grassroots supporters, and progressive activists across New York in political retribution for the historic gains we’ve made together over the past year.
So now, Cuomo is responding how he usually does: by trying to divide and conquer.
Cuomo is seeking to build support for a ban on fusion voting — the system that allows the Working Families Party to cross-endorse progressive Democrats like the challengers to the IDC and have them run on our ballot line. Time and again, fusion voting has allowed the WFP ballot line to provide the margin of victory for Democrats running in swing districts seeking to oust right-wing Republicans.
Cuomo’s fusion ban is an attempt to hurt not just the WFP, but our entire movement, and to prevent us from winning victories like these in the future.
Andrew Cuomo’s proposed fusion ban is only one part of an all-out attack against New York progressives:
- Cuomo is already attacking the new WFP-Democratic majority in the state Senate, telling voters that vulnerable newly elected Democrats “should be held accountable” for standing up for working families.2
- Cuomo is reportedly working to build an “IDC v. 2” — a development that Sen. Alessandra Biaggi (D-WFP) responded to on Twitter by saying: “over my dead body.”3
- And Cuomo has already put language in his budget that would force grassroots, volunteer-led organizations like many of the groups that helped defeat the IDC to register as lobbyists if they engage in even a small amount of advocacy.4
Now, with the April 1st budget deadline approaching, Cuomo is coming after fusion voting, which has played a vital role in New York’s democracy for over a century — and which has helped WFP and our allies build the progressive political power to win victories like these and more.
We’ve shown everyone over the last few months that when working people stand together, we can accomplish almost anything. Now we need to come together once again. Will you take 30 seconds to say you stand with the Working Families Party in this moment — and show Andrew Cuomo the strength of our movement?
More soon,
Bill Lipton

Last night was the first big election night of 2019, team. And it was a huge one for the Working Families Party.
In New York City, WFP‘s Jumaane Williams defeated a field of 17 candidates to win his special election for Public Advocate — the second-highest office in the city!
The Working Families Party has been with Jumaane since the beginning, when he took on the establishment to win his City Council seat in Brooklyn ten years ago. Now he’ll be able to champion his people’s agenda of criminal justice reform, police accountability, fair and affordable housing, choice, and equality for all from one of NYC’s biggest platforms.
And in Chicago, our allies at United Working Families helped power a diverse slate of progressive candidates to wins and runoffs in city elections, including Maria Hadden, a queer Black activist who defeated a close Rahm Emanuel ally, and Jeanette B. Taylor, one of the hunger strikers who fought to keep Dyett High School open in 2015 and ended the career of a longtime party boss.
These are game-changing victories for the Working Families Party, our allies, and partners — and a testament to what working people can achieve when we band together. But 2019 is just getting started, and there’s so much more we can do.
And we saw it again last night, with the election of movement activists and grassroots champions — and a rejection of politics as usual.
These wins show what’s possible when working people unite to take on the establishment and fight for justice and change. Working Families Party organizers, activists, and allies have time and time again played pivotal roles in wins like these. But these moments are only possible because of you. Let’s create more of them.
Thank you,
Team WFP

Bad news got you down, friends?
From the government shutdown, to Trump’s fake national emergency, to continued child separations at the border and more, the number of truly awful things happening in this country and across the world can be overwhelming.
But there are bright spots too. With so much going on in the news these days, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on some incredible victories for working families we’ve achieved — all over just the last few weeks! — thanks to community activists, partners, and Working Families Party supporters like you:
West Virginia Teachers Defeat Republican School Privatization Bill
Almost a year after West Virginia teachers went on strike and launched a nationwide movement, the Republican state legislature tried to pass a bill that would use public funds for private schools. So West Virginia teachers went back on strike — and defeated the bill! (You can chip in here to help support some of the courageous West Virginia school bus drivers and school personnel who held the line this week and went without pay.) The West Virginia Working Families Party played a key role in last year’s strike, and we’re supporting teachers everywhere that take to the picket line to fight for better pay and better public schools — including the ongoing teacher strike in Oakland, CA. Working Families Secure a $15 Minimum Wage in New Jersey
After a years-long campaign led by New Jersey Working Families Alliance and allies, New Jersey is now on the path to a $15 minimum wage! It’s a huge victory for the nearly one million workers who will get a raise. Read more about the organizing success behind this incredible victory in Truthout »
Denver Teacher Strike Ends After Securing Huge Pay Increase
The Colorado Working Families Party was proud to stand with teachers on the picket line who walked out over unfair pay practices from the district in comparison to neighboring districts, hurting Denver students. Now that teachers have secured a much-deserved pay raise, CO WFP is looking toward the upcoming school board elections to elect pro-education leaders to the board. New York Community Groups Defeat Scamazon
For the last few months, the New York Working Families Party stood with working people, activists, and community groups to oppose $3 billion in corporate giveaways to Amazon, one of the world’s largest corporations — and won. Friend,
After facing months of unrelenting opposition from communities, activists, and newly-elected WFP leaders, Amazon caved and decided to pull out of their plans to build a second headquarters in New York after they learned they would no longer be receiving billions in subsidies on the backs of working families.
Today we proved once again that sustained resistance can work, and that when we fight, we win! To celebrate this tremendous victory, will you share our break-up Valentine far and wide?
Corporate lobbyists have written our federal tax code to suit their needs instead of ours, while multinational corporations routinely pit cities and states cities and states against each other. The “winner” of these bidding wars gets to fork over taxpayer dollars that could go towards creating jobs for nurses, teachers, caregivers, or investing in affordable housing, Medicare for All and a Green New Deal. You can see it in the Foxconn boondoggle in Wisconsin, the $11 billion economic development scandal in New Jersey, and Tesla here in New York.
The game is rigged, and the only way to win is not to play.
Today’s victory wouldn’t have been possible without the fierce advocacy and leadership of union workers at RWDSU and community groups like Make the Road and New York Communities for Change, and activists like you, friend. Now we need to build on it, and continue the work towards an economy and political system that works for the many, not the privileged and powerful few.
Happy Valentine’s Day,
New York Working Families Party

PREVIOUS EMAIL:
Team,
2018 was an amazing year for progressives across the country — and New York state was front and center.
Together, we powered a wave of grassroots candidates to unexpected victories, helped flip control of Congress, changed the landscape of Albany forever by ending the IDC, and elected a Democratic-WFP majority to the state Senate that is already hard at work passing long fought-for progressive legislation.
Now, we’re looking for the next batch of grassroots candidates in New York who are running for local office and ready to lead the fight for racial, social, and economic justice in their own communities.
Does this sound like you? Click here to apply for the New York Working Families Party endorsement in 2019.
Not running for office yourself? If you know a great candidate running for local office in New York in 2019, nominate them for the WFP endorsement here.

WFP does our best to make sure our endorsed candidates have the training and resources they need to run and win, including access to our nationwide base of activists and volunteers to spread the word about your campaign.
But we don’t have too much time. Thanks to a package of election reforms that passed in Albany earlier this month, primaries for local office will now take place in June instead of September. That means the entire political calendar is moved up and we have to make decisions more quickly than usual — and it’s why we are asking for your input right now.
Are you planning to run for office in New York this year? Click here to fill out our candidate questionnaire and tell the Working Families Party how you plan to bring progressive leadership to your community in 2019.

Thank you for all you do,

Hi friends. This is it — the last day of our Green New Deal sticker giveaway. Soon, we’ll be placing the final orders, shipping the stickers out, and using the raised funds to organize around the fight for a cleaner, greener, more radical climate policy.
(And if you’ve already ordered yours, don’t worry — you can actually donate as many times as you want and get even more)
Thanks to hundreds of thousands of activists nationwide, momentum is growing fast behind a Green New Deal. A record-number of Representatives and Senators are on board with the idea. And if we pull this off, we’ll be able to transform our economy, create tens of millions of jobs, and lift up millions of working families who have been left behind.
We hope to see these stickers on notebooks, bicycles, and laptops all over the country.
Thank you,
Team WFP
